About us

Mission
Promoting a healthy lifestyle in a vibrant and thriving community while protecting the natural environment for our next generation, community and beyond.
The Environment
At The Granary, protecting the environment for future generations is at the forefront of our minds while making educated business decisions. We recognize the severity and the repercussions of our current lifestyle and the effect it is having on our changing climate. We each have a role to play as individuals and as businesses when it comes to contributing to a better world and combating climate change. In order to contribute to a sustainable planet, The Granary is a strong supporter of the following ideals and organizations:

Organic
The term organic refers to an ecological method of agricultural production that respects the natural environment. Organics focuses on enhancing the health and vitality of the soil, preserving biodiversity, promoting animal welfare and preserving the ecological integrity of our environment. No synthetic fertilizers, synthetic pesticides or genetically modified organisms are permitted in organics.

Non GMO
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering, or GE. This relatively new science creates unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.

Fair Trade
The Granary is committed to carrying Fair Trade certified products that support social justice and fair labour. A growing number of products throughout the store, including coffees, sugar, teas, chocolate, and body care products now display the fair trade logo.

Local
At The Granary, we know that organic and local go better together. This knowledge has led to an ever growing network of local, sustainable food and product producers. We support family owned farms, source quality, and locally made products whenever possible. Every effort will be made to prioritize the purchasing of local food that is in-line with our quality, standards and values.
Zero Waste
Adapting or shifting to a zero waste lifestyle is one the fastest and easiest climate action strategies that communities can implement today to immediately reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A zero waste approach protects the health of communities by reducing pollution in the air, water and soil by keeping toxics and waste out of landfills and incinerators it also conserves natural resources and reduces pollution from extraction, manufacturing and disposal. By implementing proven solutions to rethink, refuse, reduce, reuse, repair, repurpose and recycle and by leaning on industry and business to redesign product and packaging, we can make a difference. At the Granary we are continuously looking for ways to reduce waste. With a zero waste refillery and a focus on quality waste free products we can help you reduce waste as well. We bring awareness to our suppliers and distributors we are pushing for green shipping practices and zero waste product packaging. Ask us how we can help you lower your waste and work towards a circular economy that saves money and protects our future generations.

Dena Comley
Owner
Dena’s interest in good health started long before she purchased The Granary. As a believer in all things natural, Dena has always had an interest in living a healthy lifestyle. This interest extends beyond personal health to include the health of the community and the natural environment. As a passionate environmentalist, Dena has always tried to make a positive difference in her world. As an environmental engineering technologist, Dena spent the first part of her career outside, trekking, sampling, testing and measuring the natural environment that connects us all. After starting a family, it became imperative that life had to change; a switch was then made to take that passion and spread healthy living locally. Dena is happier than ever with her decision to be closer to home and family.
