Unfortunately, for the past twenty years we’ve been denied our right to know. Approximately 70% of the foods we now eat contain Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Many independent peer reviewed studies question the safety of GMOs, both for our health and for the health of our environment. Without labeling, we don’t have the Freedom of Choice to decide what we eat. The Just Label It! campaign was created to advocate for the labeling of GMO foods.
I recently had the opportunity and honour to see Rachel Parent, the founder of the Just Label It!campaign speak in Toronto. This 15 year old activist is the founder of “Kids Right To Know”:http://www.kidsrighttoknow.com and she has the clear goal of lobbying to get GMOs labeled in Canada, as they are in many other countries around the world. Her well researched facts and her extensive knowledge on the subject of GMOs, including the political an corporate issues that surround them is amazing. I encourage you to visit her website, see her live if you have the chance an support her cause.
Rachel’s “Food Safety Petition Card”:http://www.kidsrighttoknow.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Food-Safety-Petition-1page.pdf is available on her website along with a lot of great information. The cards will also be available in the store for the month of October, we will then send the signed cards along to the Minister of Health Rona Ambrose, care of our local MP Scott Reid.
